PT106  – Foundations of Poetry

This five-week course dives deep into the foundations of poetry by exploring the forces that give writing its power, tension, and unforgettable voice. Through examining poems of conflict, contrast, and emotional heat, students will learn how friction becomes fuel on the page; through surrealist techniques, they’ll tap into the strange, the intuitive, and the dreamlike to expand the boundaries of what a poem can express. Alongside this hands-on experimentation, participants will study iconic poets such as Dickinson, Eliot, and other transformative voices to understand how their craft, structure, and vision still shape contemporary writing. By the end, students will emerge with a stronger grasp of poetic fundamentals, a sharpened sense of creative risk-taking, and a growing collection of pieces that blend tradition with bold, imaginative leaps.
