Your Day at the Writers' CLC
Every day here has a rhythm. Five phases move through each weekday. The weekend has its own character. Members use a unique access code to enter the space anytime from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, seven days a week, whether or not programming is running. Here is how the day unfolds.
A Day Built Around the Work
Weekdays at the Writers' CLC move through five named phases: Focus, Learn, Community, Practice, and Gathering. Each one serves a different part of the writing life. You do not need to follow the full arc. Some members come for Quiet Hours and leave before noon. Some arrive at lunch and stay through the evening. Every member receives a unique access code and can enter the space anytime from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, whether or not facilitated programming is running. The rhythm is here whenever you want it.
Focus
6:00 – 10:00 AM
Quiet Hours
The Day Starts in Silence
Both suites are open and quiet. No facilitation, no conversation, no interruption. Four hours of protected writing time before any programming begins. Some members arrive at six and write through the morning. Others come for an hour before the rest of their day starts.
Learn
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Morning Workshop
A New Workshop Every Weekday
A facilitated 90-minute workshop runs in Suite 102 every weekday morning. Topics rotate daily across three pillars: Craft, Business of Writing, and Writing Life. These are working sessions, not lectures. The calendar is planned quarterly so you can build your week around the topics that matter most to you.
Community
12:30 – 2:00 PM
Writing Circle
The Anchor of the Weekday
Same time. Same format. Every day. Fifteen minutes to settle in and set your intention. Sixty minutes of focused communal writing. Fifteen minutes to close. The Writing Circle is the one thing that does not change. That consistency is the point.
Members who attend the Writing Circle consistently say it is the single thing that changed their relationship to the work. There is something that happens when you write alongside other people who are doing the same thing at the same time. The commitment feels shared.
Practice
2:00 – 6:00 PM
Independent Hours
Open Workspace. No Agenda.
No facilitated programming. The energy shifts naturally across the afternoon: quieter from 2:00 to 4:00, more conversational from 4:00 to 6:00. This is where the informal connections happen. A conversation at the next table that turns into a critique exchange. A question about a publishing path that someone in the room can actually answer.
Gather
7:00 – 9:00 PM
Evening Programming
The Evening Belongs to the Community
Facilitated programming runs multiple evenings per week. Monday is dedicated to Craft. Thursday is Community Night. Additional midweek programming rotates across Business of Writing, guest sessions, and variable formats. The space is open before and after each facilitated block.
Two Suites. One Address.
The Writers' CLC occupies two adjacent suites at 2 Haven St in Reading, MA. Suite 102 is where the day unfolds: workshops, Writing Circles, community events. Suite 103 is protected quiet workspace, available all day, every day.
You always have a quiet place to write. When programming runs in Suite 102, Suite 103 defaults to quiet. When no programming is scheduled, both suites are yours.
Suite 102
The Community Room
Writing stations, open floor space, workshops, Writing Circles, and evening programming. The center of the daily rhythm.
Suite 103
The Private Writing Suite
Private offices and meeting rooms. First-come basis. Defaults to quiet whenever Suite 102 programming is running.
A Different Rhythm
Programming is lighter. The hours are quieter. The space is still open 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM both days.
Saturday
Quiet Morning. One Session. Open Afternoon.
Saturday mornings follow the same quiet writing hours as weekdays. One facilitated session runs in Suite 102, rotating across the three programming pillars. The afternoon is open and unstructured.
Sunday
Your Day. No Agenda.
Sunday is by design the most open day of the week. No programming. No facilitation. Both suites are available from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM for uninterrupted, self-directed writing. Some members call it the most productive day on the calendar.
This is the day with no structure around you. Just the space, the quiet, and as many hours as you want to give the work.
After Hours
Facilitated sessions run 7:00 to 9:00 PM in Suite 102. Suite 103 is open as quiet workspace every evening. The space is accessible before and after programming until 10:00 PM.
Monday
Craft Workshop
Structure, voice, revision, genre technique, point of view, and more. A different topic every week.
Midweek
Variable Programming
Business of Writing, guest-led sessions, and rotating formats. Check the quarterly calendar for the current schedule.
Thursday
Community Night
Poetry Group, Critique Circle, WIP Night, and other rotating formats. The community sets the agenda.
Evenings without facilitated programming remain open for individual use until 10:00 PM.
